10 facts about next Fifa World cup in Russia

The World Cup in Russia is only one year away, so it is the perfect time to collect some interesting information about the event. Check out these 10 facts about World Cup 2018.

1.       The FIFA World Cup 2018 is the first time we will see Russia as the host of this tournament.

2.      This is the first tournament ever held in Eastern Europe and every city connected to the World Cup is in the European part of Russia.  

3.      The mascot of Russia World Cup 2018 is the wolf who is a football player. The mascots’ name is Zabivaka.

4.      32 teams will take part in the World Cup 2018. 14 National teams will be from Europe, including the host –Russia, 5 teams will be from Africa, 4 will be from Asia, just like the 4 from South America and 3 will be from North America. The 2 places are for the playoffs.

5.      The first and the last match will hold place in Moscow, capital of Russia.

6.      Each of every national team will be located in 11 cities in European part of Russia: Sochi, Volgograd, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Saransk, Samara, Rostov-on-Don, Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, and Moscow. The plan was to spread them in 13 cities, but Krasnodar and Yaroslavl were removed.

7.      The theme of the FIFA World Cup 2018 is: “The dream and the cosmic outer space exploration, enlivened with folk motives featuring Firebirds, Matryoshkas and folk patterns.”

8.      More than 1 000 000 tourists will visit Russia during the World Cup 2017 and fans from all over the world will be able to enter Russia without the visa.

9.      Every city was required to rebuild or build a brand new stadium because every stadium has to meet the Green Building Standards. That is a strict requirement made by FIFA.

10.  You can see the FIFA World Cup trophy on Red Square in Moscow. The trophy was put there to celebrate 1000 days until the beginning of the FIFA World Cup 2018.
