Alvaro Morata determined to “fight” for place in the Real Madrid starting eleven

Alvaro Morata knows he faces a challenge to get past Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale or Karim Benzema, but the striker is determined to cause Zinedine Zidane selection difficulties.

Morata moved back to Real Madrid from Juventus earlier this summer but faces a tough task in getting regular starting football, with the aforementioned trio being the shining beacons of Los Blancos’ recent history.

Indeed, the Spanish giants have won the Champions League in two of the last three seasons.

The 23-year-old has already scored this season, netting in Madrid’s 2-1 win over Celta Vigo, and Morata is hopeful of impressing his manager and earning regular match time.

Morata admits that the current front-line are three of the best players in the game, but he is determined to take one of their places in the starting XI.

The centre-forward told La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Goal): “Patience and ambition are important.

“If I do not play from the beginning I have to do as against Lichtenstein [for Spain]: enter in the field and score goals.

“They [Bale, Benzema and Ronaldo] are three of the best players in the world, but I will always fight to play and will give everything to make it difficult for the coach.

“I hope Zidane will rotate because it would be good for everyone.”

A lack of first-team action was behind Morata’s decision to leave the club originally two years ago, and the forward has revealed he took the advice of his “idol” Fernando Morientes when he decided to depart the Spanish side.

And while the youngster admits he could have played more moving to another side, he maintains that he was always intent on proving himself back at Real Madrid.

Morata added: “It is clear that if I had gone to another team I would have played more, but Real is my dream and I want to try to make it happen. In my head I have nothing else.”

After shining for Juventus in the past two Champions League campaigns, Morata will be hoping to start next week, as Madrid kick-off their European season at home against Sporting.
