Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has given Cesc Fabregas no assurances that he will start against Arsenal despite his fine performance in the EFL Cup last night.
Fabregas scored twice in extra time for the Blues last night as they defeated the reigning Premier League champions Leicester City 4-2 at the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes allowed a 2-0 first-half lead to slip away with Gary Cahill scoring just before the break, while Cesar Azpilicueta’s impressive volley equalled the game after the restart.
But despite Fabregas’ winning goals, Conte has not given him a clear indication that he will start away to Arsenal in the league on Saturday.
“I want to win and my choice is to win. I don’t care what their name is. For me it’s important when I call someone to play and they show me my choice is not wrong,” Conte said in his post-match press conference.
“All the players in my squad are a possibility to play against Arsenal. There are three days before the game and they have the opportunity to convince me to put them in.
“I am pleased for Cesc because he played a good game, he showed me great commitment in the training sessions. I am satisfied when I see this behaviour. This is the right way and I want my players to create good competition and, game by game, give me the opportunity to choose the best line-up.”
Fabregas was on the bench against Liverpool on Friday night and came on when they were trailing but could not swing the game in their favour. However, his impact at Leicester on Tuesday evening cannot be understated.
