Arsenal confident Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil will sign new long-term deals

Arsenal fans have not been given much to shout about in recent years, aside from their back-to-back FA Cup victories in 2014 and 2015. However, following the signings of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez, the Gunners are hoping to have further good news for their fans.

The north London club’s inability to turn their consistent top-four finishes into title wins has frustrated some of the Arsenal’s big name stars over recent years, and caused speculation in the media that some of those names, including Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, could leave.

However, according to The Mirror, Arsenal are hopeful that they can tie both Ozil and Sanchez down to new long-term contracts in the near future, after putting contract talks on hold back in May, due to the players’ respective international commitments.

It is understood Arsenal are close to agreements with both the players on new five-year deals, with the late summer arrival of Mustafi believed to have increased the chances of Ozil staying put, with his close friend and Germany teammate joining him in north London.

Sanchez, meanwhile, has also given Arsenal some positive news in their bid to keep him at the club, with the Chile international having attracted the interest of Serie A giants Juventus in this summer, but he instead decided he wants to remain with the Gunners.

The news that both Sanchez and Ozil are ready to sign new deals will come as welcome news to manager Arsene Wenger, who has come under heavy criticism from the fans in recent years for failing to compete with the Premier League’s big spenders, in the transfer market.

CONTRACT RENEWALS VITAL

However, the renewal of the two Gunners stars’ contracts will be seen as big a coup as it was to bring in fresh faces this summer. Sanchez has netted 29 league goals in the past two seasons – on top of his one strike so far this campaign – while Ozil’s assists, producing 19 last campaign, will also be vital for Arsenal, once again, this season.

But despite the positive news coming out of the Emirates regarding their key players’ futures, Wenger will now be working hard to ensure their slow start to the campaign continues on its upwards trajectory, after their wins away to Watford and at home to Southampton made up for their opening day collapse against Liverpool and draw away to Leicester City.
