Manchester United are on the verge of signing Arsenal target Goncalo Guedes, according to reports.
Arsenal have been keeping tabs on the young winger for quite some time and it was reported he is top of Wenger’s wish list to replace Chamberlain who is attracting interest from Manchester City but it appears Wenger is set to miss out on his man after Manchester United closed in on signing the winger.
According to Portuguese publication Record via the Metro, Jose Mourinho’s men has edged out Arsenal in the race to sign the winger after holding talks with Benfica president Luis Filipe Vieira.
Vieira is reportedly in London with the player’s agent Jorge Mendes to negotiate the sale of the player and it is Mourinho who has a special relationship with Mendes that is the favorite to sign the young forward.
Mourinho and Wenger are known for their fierce rivalry on the pitch and the Portuguese will definitely be keen to get one over his old foe even though there is really no need for him to sign Guedes.
Arsenal are believed to be calm over the situation as Wenger isn’t interested in signing a major player this month.
Guedes has a €60m release clause in his contract and Manchester United will have no problem paying that even though the player isn’t worth that much yet.
However, his potential is huge and that’s the only reason i’d have loved to have him here but I won’t lose sleep over him if he does complete a move to Old Trafford.
