Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told the club’s official website that they have signed a player for the present and the future in Shkodran Mustafi.
The defender completed a move to the Emirates on Tuesday, joining in a big money move for La Liga side Valencia.
He has been signed to add much needed quality to an Arsenal defence that has been left depleted by the injuries the Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista in pre-season.
Indeed, it is likely that he will go straight into the first team after the international break as a replacement for youngster Rob Holding.
Wenger though, insists that they have also signed the German international with an eye to the future.
“He is at the right age,” he told the club’s official website.
“He has good experience. He is a very focused player who can play with the ball as well. We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the future.”
Arsene Wenger will now be hoping that Mustafi goes on to become a star for the Gunners in the years to come.
There have been calls for him to sign a new centre back for a number of years, and the price he has paid for the German certainly indicates he believes he can be that man.
He will certainly have to make a quick start to life at the Emirates, with their current defensive crisis meaning he is likely to be thrust straight into the first team.
