Arsene Wenger hails Laurent Koscielny as a special character

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told the club’s official website that Laurent Koscielny’s super goal against Southampton showed his special character.

The Gunners secured their second win of the season on Saturday as they beat Claude Puel’s side at the Emirates.

They left it late to beat the Saints 2-1, courtesy of a controversial Santi Cazorla penalty.

They required a moment of magic from Koscielny to get them back in the game, though, as he scored a superb overhead kick to level the scores following Petr Cech’s own goal.

It was a memorable strike from the Frenchman, to say the least, and his manager says it shows he is a player with personality that is key to the team.

“It was his birthday, and what I liked as well, he made that [goal] at 1-0 down. Not when you have scored three or four already and that shows he is a special character,” he told the club’s official website.

Wenger will now be hoping that Koscielny shows more of that special character across this season.

He is a key player for the Gunners and has shown as much in all of his performances so far this season, none more so than in this victory.

They will certainly be keen to see him chipping in with more goals like this one, with all welcome in what is likely to be a tough campaign.
