Bastian Schweinsteiger Says Goodbye to Die Mannschaft
Bastian Schweinsteiger competed in his final match for Germany on Wednesday night. The long time midfielder waves goodbye to Die Mannschaft after 13 years of service. His international career has been an impressive one, during his time with the senior team he scored 24 goals. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment came in 2014 when he hoisted the World Cup.
Throughout his international career we’ve seen great moments from Schweinsteiger. He scored four braces during his time with Germany. In 2005 he scored his first two goals for his nation against Russia in a friendly. The following year he scored eight goals and had a memorable brace against Portugal in the Third Place match in the World Cup, which came in front of the home fans.
Despite not scoring in the 2014 World Cup run he was instrumental in the midfield and was a key part in Germany’s success. He hit a scoring drought in the past five years, but he ended that drought this summer. His very last international goal was scored when he slotted home against Ukraine in the Euro Cup.
Tonight he was moved to tears as he waved goodbye to the fans of Die Mannschaft. The midfielder will go down as a beloved player by not just the fans, but also his fellow teammates.
