Bayer Leverkusen Earn Point in Moscow
German side Bayer Leverkusen will leave Russia with one point after a 1-1 draw against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night. Both sides put on an entertaining match with plenty of scoring chances coming from the two clubs.
It was Leverkusen that struck first, as they took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Kevin Volland slotted home the goal for the visitors with Kevin Kampl playing a delightful ball into the box to record the assist.
The hosts would equalize late in the second half, as Benjamin Henrichs brought down Mario Fernandes in the box. Bibras Natcho stepped up and dispatched the penalty past the outstretched Bernd Leno.
With tonight’s result, Levekusen will have to wait for the result of Tottenham Hotspurs visit to AS Monaco, if Spurs lose then Leverkusen are through to the Round of 16. CSKA Moscow are eliminated with the draw, however, they can still qualify for the next round of the Europa League if Spurs lose.
