Bayern Munich Dominate in Opening Match

Bayern Munich began their Bundesliga title defense against Werder Bremen on Friday night. The German club routed their opponents by a final score of 6-0, which included a Robert Lewandowski hat trick.

The scoring got under way in the 9th minute when Xabi Alonso scored an absolutely fantastic goal from well outside the 18-yard box. It only took the home side five minutes to find a second goal, as Lewandowski slotted home his first of the night.

In the first minute of the second half the Polish striker would find goal number three, as he turned in a Franck Ribery cross. The Frenchman would find a goal of his own in the 74th minute to make it 5-0. Philippe Lahm also found the back of the net in the second half with a goal in the 66th minute.

Lewandowski would convert a 77th minute penalty kick to finish off his night with a hat trick. It was a fine start for the reigning leading scorer of the league. He finished with a total of 30 goals in last years campaign.

Bayern Munich will travel to Schalke next Friday for a key early season match. Werder Bremen will look to rebound from the rout with a Sunday afternoon meeting with FC Augsburg.
