New Zealand have called up Canterbury flanker Matt Todd following the injury sustained to Sam Cane, which has ruled him out for six weeks.
Cane suffered a hamstring injury against Argentina on Saturday and head coach Steve Hansen has revealed that Todd will be replacing him.
It looks set that Ardie Savea will start against the Springboks in Christchurch this weekend, with Todd seeming likely to be on the bench.
“He is growing all the time. We had a good chat last week. He is happy and everyone is happy with the progress but we know there’s things he can still do better,” Hansen told the press in Hamilton on Sunday about the progress Hurricanes openside Savea has been making in camp.
“It is the pace of the game. He is a really explosive athlete so is he ready to play 80 minutes? We are not sure yet at that level but we will get a good 60 out of him and we know Matty can play for as long as we need him.”
