Detroit Lions Defeat Pittsburgh Steelers

The Detroit Lions defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday night, as the away side scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to win their opening pre-season game.

Fans would have to wait till the second quarter to see points on the board. The Steelers Doran Grant took an interception to the house from 39 yards out to give the home team their first lead of the night.

Matt Prater would get the Lions on the board a few minutes later with a 29 yard field goal.

Darrius Heyward-Bey would extend the lead to 14-3 when he caught a 29 yard touchdown pass from Landry Jones.

Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky would find a response on the very next drive, as he connected with Andre Roberts for a 28 yard touchdown pass. Prater would send his second field goal of the night through the uprights in the final minutes of the first half to pull the Lions within one.

Rookie Devon Bell would provide the only points in the third quarter as he gave the Lions a 16-14 lead with a 42 yard field goal.

Chris Boswell answered at the start of the fourth quarter to give the Steelers a 16-14 with a 37 yard field goal.

On the ensuing kickoff Dwayne Washington would return it 96 yards to give the lead right back to the Lions. Jake Rudock would convert the two point conversion with a pass to Quinshad Davis.

The former Michigan quarterback found the end zone again later in the quarter as he connected with Jace Billingsley for a 27 yard touchdown pass. The extra point was missed, but the game ended with a final score of 30-17 in favor of the Lions.

Up next the Lions will take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday, and the Steelers will face the Philadelphia Eagles.
