A month ago, FIFA narrowed down the mascot pool for the 2018 World Cup in Russia down to three candidates: Cat, Wolf and Tiger. Russian fans voted for their favorite, and the winner is … drumroll, please …
Wolf! Hell yes! It should have been Wolf, who it turns out is named Zabivaka, all along. Cat and Tiger (or whatever their real names are) are cool and all, but Zabivaka had it in the bag from the jump. To make it all the more incredible, he won in a total landslide, snaring almost 53 percent of the vote. Tiger placed second with 27 percent, while Cat brought up the rear with 20 percent.
Over a million fans voted, and Zabivaka collected over half a million just by himself. “I am sure Zabivaka will be a massive hit among fans at the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 and the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia,” Local Organizing Committee Chairman Vitaly Mutko said in a release.
I, for one, can’t wait to see Zabivaka in action.
