Arsenal are keeping tabs on FC Porto midfielder Danilo, according to the Daily Star.
Reports have linked Arsenal with a host of midfielders in recent weeks but Wenger has denied those reports, insisting he doesn’t intend to sign new players this month.
However, it appears Wenger has his eyes on the future already.
According to A Bola, Arsenal scouts were present in Porto’s game last weekend to watch Danilo in view to making a move for the midfielder in the summer transfer window.
The defensive midfielder has been impressive for Porto this season and Wenger has asked to keep a close watch on his progress.
Should the midfielder continue his impressive form, the report reckons Wenger could make a move for his services. He has a £35m release clause in his contract which Porto will definitely ask us to pay if we are to have any chance of signing the player.
Arsenal have enough options in midfield and I doubt if Wenger would be willing to spend big on a centre midfielder next summer having spent around the same amount to sign Xhaka in the last transfer window.
Arsenal scouts have been regular at Portuguese games this season and it could well be that they were just there to do their regular checks and not necessarily to watch Danilo.
If Arsenal were to be looking for a new midfielder to replace Cazorla, it would have made so much sense to move for Damilo but the Spaniard’s contract extension means there is no need to sign a new midfielder next summer.
