Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has suggested in The London Evening Standard that Arsenal should consider signing Christian Benteke from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
Redknapp has stated that the Belgium international striker looked brilliant at Aston Villa, and that he is better for value than Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.
The former Tottenham and West Ham United manager has also stated that Crystal Palace should sign Benteke from Liverpool before the end of the summer transfer window.
“But they do need a centre-forward and they need to push the boat out to get Christian Benteke.” Redknapp wrote in The London Evening Standard regarding Palace’s need to sign Benteke.
“If I was at Arsenal, I’d consider it too. Benteke looked fantastic at Aston Villa but his confidence is on the floor after being dragged on and off at Liverpool.
“He needs a manager to build him up again, make him the main man and get him the service he needs.
“I don’t see Romelu Lukaku worth £60m and Benteke at £30m: if we are talking value, I’d have Benteke all day long. Palace need to get that deal done.”
According to BBC Sport, Palace and Liverpool have agreed a deal over the transfer of Benteke.
It has been reported that the 25-year-old will move to Palace from Premier League rivals Liverpool for an initial £27 million fee, with the deal potentially rising above £30m with add-ons.
Benteke joined Liverpool from Villa in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by Sky Sports at the time to be worth £32.5m.
The scored former Genk and Standard Liege striker scored nine goals and created 30 chances in 29 Premier League appearances for Liverpool during the 2015-16 campaign.
