Japan’s Hozumi Hasegawa caused an upset when he stopped Hugo Ruiz in the ninth round to win the WBC super-bantamweight belt in Osaka, Japan last week.

Ruiz (36-4; 32) quit on his stool after the ninth round, complaining about problems with his breathing.

The southpaw Hasegawa, 36 -5, has now won three WBC belts, having previously held the bantamweight and featherweight belts.
