LA Galaxy blown out by Seattle Sounders

The LA Galaxy were punched in the face as the Seattle Sounders came back from an early deficit to score four unanswered goals en route to a 4-2 blowout on a blistering Sunday afternoon at the StubHub Center.

Giovani dos Santos returned to the lineup in a playmaking role behind Robbie Keane.
Despite the torturous heat, the game started off brightly for the Galaxy who carved out plenty of chances exploiting the space in the Sounders’ midfield.

In the 20th minute, LA would pull ahead. Giovani dos Santos roamed the left touchline before Sebastian Lletget checked in to the ball, and Lletget neatly dinked a cross for an open Robbie Keane to smash home.

The Galaxy were threatening to run riot on Seattle, and in the 33rd minute, Gio broke loose from the Sounders backline only to be denied by Stefan Frei.

Minutes later however, a Sounders corner kick deflected off Jelle Van Damme’s head into the net for an own goal.

The second half was less subdued until the match exploded in the 63rd minute. With Daniel Steres tightly marking Jordan Morris, the speedy forward spun and left Steres in the dust before racing in on goal and placing a outside the boot dagger into the upper 90.

Ten minutes later, Jordan Morris completed his brace after a close range Nicolas Lodeiro attempt was saved by Rowe but bounced to the rookie who evaded Rogers before putting the ball in the back of the net.

Improbably, five minutes later Osvaldo Alonso added to the Sounders’ lead with a blast from the left corner of the area after the ball fortuitously bounced off the referee to the midfielder.

Just when you figured the match was dead, Steven Gerrard drew a soft penalty that Robbie Keane converted. Landon Donovan’s introduction in the 67th minute could produce no goal this time around as the game ended 4-2.
