Late Rooney Goal Earns Manchester United a Point

A Wayne Rooney free-kick in the 94th minute rescued a point for Manchester United at the bet365 Stadium. It was the 250th goal for the long time United star, as he becomes the club’s all-time leading scorer.

Stoke City were on the defensive for most of the second half, and came close to taking all three points. They grabbed the lead in the 17th minute when Juan Mata deflected in an Erik Pieters cross from close range.

United were poised to find an equalizer and came close on multiple occasions. Jesse Lingard hit the crossbar in the 87th minute with an effort from just outside the box, as it appeared the luck was with Stoke for the day.

The moment finally came in the 94th minute after Marcus Rashford was fouled on the left-wing. Rooney stepped up and curled a perfect ball into the corner of the net.

After today’s result, United remain in sixth place and Stoke in ninth.
