LeBron James says Russell Westbrook can average a triple-double by season’s end

Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook is having the season of his life — currently averaging a triple-double (31 points, 10.9 rebounds, 11.3 assists per game).

Westbrook has recorded six straight triple-doubles, the longest streak since Michael Jordan’s seven consecutive during the 1988-1989 season, and has posted 11 total triple-doubles in 22 games.

Can he maintain this torrid pace of box score brilliance?

One NBA player seems to think so, and it’s not just any NBA player — LeBron James. When asked by reporters Wednesday if he thinks he could ever average a triple-double, LeBron’s response was the highest of endorsements:

“[Me?] Nah. Westbrook can do it. He’s capable of doing it, he’s showing it. He’s like the Energizer Bunny, man. He doesn’t get tired. When you have the passion for the game as well, it’s very doable. His athleticism being able to go get those rebounds, he handles the ball for the majority of the game, he shoots nine free throws a game…it’s very doable.”
