Mamadou Sakho training with Liverpool’s first-team as he looks to get career back on track

Mamadou Sakho
Liverpool centre-back Mamadou Sakho is training with the Reds first-team as he looks to win back Jurgen Klopp‘s trust.

Paul Joyce of the Express reports that the 26-year-old “has not been ostracised by Klopp and joined in yesterday’s session at Melwood“.

This news will come as a pleasant surprise to many of Sakho’s admirers, with plenty fearing his relationship with Klopp had reached the point of no return.

The Frenchman rejected loan moves to Stoke City, West Brom and Besiktas in the summer transfer window, despite his manager informing him that he wanted him to move elsewhere to improve his fitness and attitude.

Sakho’s behaviour has plagued his progress at Anfield in 2016, with a failed drugs test in March occurring after he took a fat burning substance behind the club’s back.

Although eventually found innocent, the former Paris Saint-Germain captain was then sent home from the Reds’ summer tour of the United States, having infuriated Klopp with his sloppy attitude, including interrupting an interview he was conducting.

The report claims that Sakho is now way down in the centre-back pecking order at Anfield, with Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan all preferred by Klopp

The 49-year-old is not one to suffer fools gladly, and Sakho clearly has a long way to go before he gets back in his manager’s good books.

That may never happen, in fact.

The popular defender needs to knuckle down and improve his all-round attitude, or risk never representing Liverpool ever again.

The fact that he is training alongside his teammates should ease his fears slightly, though.
