The Mexican national team arrived in Panama on Sunday night three players short of the group that was with the team in Columbus, Ohio for Friday’s 2-1 victory over the United States.
All three are missing for different reasons with midfielder Andres Guardado out because of injury, Carlos Salcedo suspended after getting sent off late in Friday’s encounter and Carlos Vela given a release to be present for the birth of his son.
All three players saw time in the opening match of this window with Guardado and Vela in the starting lineup and Salcedo coming into the game to replace Guardado, sliding to right back while Diego Reyes went to center back and Rafa Marquez moved into the midfield.
Salcedo is headed to Guadalajara, where he previously played with Chivas, to attend to personal matters before returning to join Fiorentina. Vela, who plays his club soccer with Real Sociedad, returned to Spain to see the birth of his child. Guardado estimated that he’ll be out three to four weeks after the injury, He said he was hoping to stay with the team to provide support but is already working to get back from his injury to be able to return to the field for PSV quickly.
