Rafa Benitez in his first transfer window last summer had a huge clearout of players that was long overdue as he built a team that would eventually win the Championship and get Newcastle automatically promoted at the first time of trying.
And now while Rafa is building a side that can compete in the Premier League next season, there will be a similar clearout of players either sold or again sent out on loan to get them off the wage bill.
And the club has already announced their retained list, with the news the following players have been released or sold:
Florian Thauvin – sold to Marseille for £10M
Vurnon Anita – contact will not be renewed
Sammy Ameobi – contact will not be renewed
Haris Vuckic – contact will not be renewed
Lubo Satka – contact will not be renewed
In addition 34 year-old Irish striker Daryl Murphy has been told he is free to leave this summer and there is a lot of interest in center-back Grant Hanley who will also be let go this summer..
So including those two it’s also almost certain the following players have no future at the club:
So there’s 14 of our first team players who will have no future at the club, but in addition to those there are signs that Rafa is willing to sell other more established players, with striker Aleksandar Mitrovic to be sold if Rafa can get around £14M for him and bring in a replacement for Mitro this summer.
Yoan Gouffran is trying to negotiate a new deal to stay, but it will be very much on Newcastle’s terms and it could be the 31 year-old Frenchman could get a better deal elsewhere.
Our hunch is that Yoan Gouffran will leave the club this summer.
