Ray Parlour believes Michael Carrick has proven an excellent fit in the Manchester United side.
The Red Devils have won their last four Premier League games to kick-start their season under new manager Jose Mourinho.
The 20-time English champions had beaten Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion in their last three Premier League games before Christmas Day.
Mourinho’s men eased to a 3-1 win against Sunderland on Boxing Day thanks to goals from Daley Blind, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Red Devils are still a staggering 13 points behind Antonio Conte’s all-conquering Chelsea side as a result of their stuttering start to the season.
Former Arsenal midfielder Parlour believes Carrick has played a vital role in Manchester United’s recent resurgence in the Premier League.
“Michael Carrick hasn’t lost for 14 games now since he has been in the side. He gives his team-mates a license to get forward. Pogba and Herrera alongside him as well seem a real good fit for Carrick,” Parlour told Sky Sports News HQ.
Manchester United finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season.
Chelsea, on the other hand, ended a disappointing campaign in tenth place.
