Sunderland told spend or face relagation

Sunderland manager David Moyes has told his Stadium of Light paymasters they must spend heavily in January or face being relegated.
The Black Cats kept up their woeful early-season form – and have yet again failed to win a match in August or September – after surrendering a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2 at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Moyes is aware he needs to significantly add to his side when the transfer window opens in the new year or fears Sunderland will again be struggling come May.

“I think we know we’re going to have to improve on what we’ve got to give ourselves a chance,” he told reporters.

“Ultimately you have to have good players on the pitch and, at the moment, we’re not getting enough good players on the pitch. We need to get a better team, it’s as simple as that.

“We need to get a team which can give us results.”
