Wenger To Step Down? Diego Simeone Odds On To Become Next Arsenal Manager

We have recently become favourites to land Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone as our next manager, according to the bookmakers. Following the latest slash on odds, the Argentine is now available at 6/4 to move to Premier League by the end of 2017.

He is at 5/1 odds to replace Arsene Wenger at Emirates Stadium. The odds available for us are still a bit high, but we are comfortably ahead of our league rivals. Chelsea are available at 8/1 odds while Manchester United are further behind at 9/1 odds.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Simeone is ready for his big break in England, and Arsenal have pushed their way to the front of the pack to snap up the La Liga legend.”

Speculations regarding Simeone’s future have certainly increased ever since he agreed on a two-year reduction in his contract with Atletico last month.

The Argentine is widely expected to leave Atletico over the next couple of years and, at the same time, Arsene Wenger’s future at our club has become far from certain.

Wenger’s current deal expires at the end of the current season, and he has given no indication of yet that he will be signing a new deal. It is widely expected among Arsenal fans that the Frenchman will take a decision based on how we perform this season.

Besides the managerial situations at both clubs, another factor behind us being favourites for Simeone is that all the remaining big clubs in Premier League are currently not looking for a new manager.

Man Utd, Chelsea and Man City all have appointed new managers in the summer while Liverpool look perfectly happy with Jurgen Klopp at the moment.

So, we make for a perfect club to be linked with Simeone in Premier League. I don’t think he would like to move to either of Real Madrid or Barcelona, and that leaves him with Serie A or us.

He was linked with a move to Serie A recently, and there have been suggestions that he wants to manage in Italy in his next job. He has previously played in Serie A, so a move to Italy would make sense for him too.

However, one can’t deny the attraction and riches of Premier League, so it’s going to be interesting to see where he moves next in his career.

In my opinion, Simeone is not quite a right fit for us. Surely, he is one hell of a manager and has established himself as one of the top managers in football during his time with Atletico.

But, in my opinion, we are kind of a club who put too much emphasis on philosophy and playing the game in a right way, and, I don’t think Simeone fits our philosophy.

Also, all this talk will become moot if Wenger signs a contract extension with us. I think he is not going anywhere just yet.
